A VOTRE SANTE!!…THE "TRES CHIC" WINES OF BURGUNDY & BORDEAUX...

"BIENVENUE" FRANCE PRODUCES THE MOST WINE IN THE WORLD…

THE ABSOLUTE BEAUTY OF THE FRENCH CHATEAU

The 1976 Paris tasting, or Judgment of Paris as it became known, had a revolutionary effect, “like a vinous shot heard round the world.”

Bonjour and welcome to French wines 101, we will make it easy for you because there is nothing to fear but wine itself…haha! Enjoying wine for me is as much about the the taste as the pedigreed…the French have always retained an air of snobbery when it came to their wines until 1976, when Napa Valley stole their thunder in the "Judgement of Paris" where two California wines toppled the French in a blind taste test!! 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay & 1973 Stags Leap Cabernet among other California wines made history…the wine industry was never the same and America took it's rightful place at the "vin de table" wine table….I for one was surrounded by amazing French wines in the 80's and had my share of St.-Emilion & Pommard...

THE FABULOUS WHITES OF BURGUNDY, CRISP & MINERAL DRIVEN

ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES

Burgundy and Bordeaux are both regions in France
Bordeaux is best known for its reds, Cabernet Sauvignon- and Merlot-based wines, blended with support from Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. By the way, if you ever hear someone talking about banks in Bordeaux, they're not talking about financial institutions. Several rivers run through Bordeaux. On the Left Bank, facing the sea, are the Médoc and Pessac-Léognan appellations (usually Cabernet Sauvignon-based). The Right Bank includes St.-Emilion and Pomerol (dominated by Merlot).
White Bordeaux, or Bordeaux blanc, is primarily a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. And let's not forget Sauternes, dessert wines that come from Bordeaux, such as the famous Château d'Yquem.
Burgundy is known equally for its white and red wines. The main grape varieties are Chardonnay (white Burgundy) and Pinot Noir (red Burgundy). Lest I sound like a snob, I should also mention Gamay, a grape that hails from the Beaujolais region of Burgundy. The wines of Beaujolais are not typically held in as high esteem as those from elsewhere in Burgundy, but many cru Beaujolais wines are of good quality, and lots of people enjoy fresh, fruity Beaujolais Nouveau every November. However, when people talk about red Burgundy, they're talking about Pinot Noir, not Gamay.

Actually, I remember in the 80's when people went crazy over Beaujolais Nouveau, why?? With a vast majority of French wines that are outstanding, there really was no reason to drink it, unless you wanted a cheap Buzz…..

WONDERFUL BORDEAUX , A CABERNET/MERLOT BLEND

ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE POWER OF BLENDS..SYRAH, GRENACHE, MOUVEDRE

Loire Wine

The Loire Valley is a key wine region in western France. It follows the course of the Loire river on its long journey through the heart of France, from the inland hills of Auvergne to the plains on the French Atlantic coast near Nantes (Muscadet country).
NOTHING LIKE THE ANCIENT VINES OF FRANCE…...

THE PICTURESQUE COUNTRY AND THE "TERROIR"(earth)
One of the many more trips on my "bucket list" is to take a riverboat cruise through the LOIRE VALLEY!! Just imagine how intoxicating…haha..to drink fabulous wine and not have to worry about driving! The lovely little villages, the smell of baguettes baking and the CHEESE, CHEESE AND MORE CHEESE!!!! Wow, I'm ready now to go plus anyplace that can make the words spicy mustard sound exotic, Dijon Moutarde, is the place for me! I will say that I've been to PARIS and we had an amazing dinner at the JULES VERNE Restaurant at the top of the Eiffel Tower…what a view not to mention the " Fromage panier " cheese cart and of course the CHAMPAGNE….you can't be in Paris and not drink it!!

Champagne is a region in the northeast of France, lying between Paris and Belgium. The capital of the Champagne region is Châlons en Champagne. Known worldwide for its sparkling wine, the region can be easily reached thanks to good road and rail connections.

  1. DECISIONS, DECISIONS….
THE AREA IS BEST KNOWN FOR THE PRODUCTION OF THE SPARKLING WHITE WINE THAT BEARS THE REGIONS NAME…EU LAW AND THE LAWS OF MOST COUNTRIES RESERVE THE TERM "CHAMPAGNE" EXCLUSIVELY FOR WINES THAT COME FROM THIE REGION LOCATED ABOUT 100 MILES EAST OF PARIS!

    A LOVELY SOUVENIR FROM PARIS..

I want to wish everyone a HAPPY EASTER & PASSOVER…break out the bubbly and celebrate and enjoy…A VOTRE SANTE!!
